Nice so it would be about 21 dollars a year to link up this forum to the domain, including domain costs. Sounds decent, eh?

As long as its hosted on the proboards server, you cant profit from the ads.

Which sucks, but makes total sense. As for domains, I wish there was an .ed extension because then we could get www.writh.ed

Have you only just noticed?
The Proboards Design forums had fallen when Zanmato Design, SSD and G101 Design closed their doors. Design forums have not been the same since then, fact. Of course, there have been design forums such as Slightly Insane, Studio Zero and even Themesource (to an extent) that has kept it going.
I see design forums now, even mine are just simply not good enough now. The awesome designers and coders don't hang out about Proboards anymore, they have gone on to do better things and projects. All we are left with is mediocre designers (no offence anyone) coming up with basic skins that even 5 years ago, wasn't up to standard yet gain a little bit of activity because everyone is trying to grasp on to something. What annoys me the most, is the community is just not the same. Back in the day, you'd get members coming and going, requesting graphics, random designers joining up and contributing something worthwhile. These days, it's all about "who you know", without having a name to yourself, then your forum doesn't get member activity. I want the good old community back, where people are not sheep, and don't follow their friends round to be popular.
For example, take my forum. When viewed in Firefox and Google Chrome, the home page looks sexy but we barely have any members. If I didn't own the forum, I'd love to hang there and I'm not being biased saying this. I genuinly think it looks good. Then, you see other design forums with a less attractive skin as Zatch, but soaks up the activity. Why? It's about who you know. You really do need to have a wide social network these days to run a succesful forum. Back in the day, like 5 years ago, this wasn't the case.

Some good points were brought up. Could social networking be killing the Design forum? Its a good question to ponder. I barely remember days where communities were like that. I came in during the end of the good days. I completely agree with you Kim. But instead of sitting around saying how lame the design community has become, why dont we do something about it?

Social networking might have had affected it in some way. What can we do about it, what are the options? By the way, get yourself over at Zatch would be a nice start.
